Afsaneh Noori welcomes Venita Garvin Valdez as the guest of the Change Thrivers show to discuss domestic violence, a pattern of behavior in which one intimate partner uses physical violence, coercive threats, intimidation, isolation, and emotional, sexual, or economic abuse to control the other partner in the relationship. The show will also focus on positioning victims on the journey of transformation to becoming survivors and onward to embracing a life free of violence and abuse.
Venita is the Chief Executive Officer of the Domestic Abuse Shelter (DAS), Inc. serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Florida Keys from Key Largo to Key West. Venita has been involved in the domestic violence movement since her first position with the YWCA in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was the Director of the Alice Paul House and Transitional Housing Center from 1990-1991. She became the Director of the YWCA, Women’s Advocacy Program in Richmond, Virginia. From 1991- 1995.
