Do flowers question the Divine Order for their growth?

With big decisions looming ahead of me I found it hard to fall asleep last night. I don’t remember my dreams but I know they were fitful. I woke up late in the morning, still tired from the struggles of the last night. My spirit was damp and my heart heavy. I didn’t want to dream but I also didn’t want to wake up. I felt depressed and sluggish. My morning gratitude felt more like a habit than a genuine feeling.

Magda had already gone to work. I was alone with the cat. I felt no motivation to do anything. I made a simple breakfast and went back to my favorite green recliner in the bedroom. I just sat quietly as I sipped my morning tea. In the depth of my shadow, feeling my worst, I was focused on my short comings and failures. Although, the part of me that is secure in the Divine Order of All things calmly observed the mayhem of my ego, my feelings were all wrapped up in beating myself up.

My wise, compassionate and generous life companion, Magda, called to check on me and I told her (more…)

Come Along my Journey of Change and Self-discovery

The meaning of life changes when you sit with death.

I stood by my mother as she took her last two puffy breaths. That moment was an end to an era. There were no older generation left before me. I was now a family elder. My life was about to change. For the previous 8 nights and days, I had stayed with my mother at the hospice, witnessing the ending of life. Sitting with death, the meaning of life began to change for me. I saw that in the end, the only things that mattered were love, inner peace and trust in the Divine. Everything else became a non-issue. This new awareness lead me to evaluate my own life and make some changes.

Of course, in the midst of it all, I was too engaged in the moment to contemplate and process the experience. I was in the middle of an emotional storm; busy getting through it in the best way that I could.  The Hospice house around the corner from my house was full so we ended up in one that was 30 miles away. To be with my mother on her last days, I had to put just about everything else on hold. I cancelled all my appointments and rescheduled the radio shows and moved in to her room at the hospice. Other than 2-3 hours a day when I would go for a walk, eat and refresh, I lived in a sort of seclusion. My connection to others was mostly (more…)

About “Go To ELF – Teachings of the Eternal Life Force” by Lauren McLaughlin

“Go to ELF!” – a romance novel with a twist, is the story of two men who have been friends since childhood, and who meet weekly for breakfast at a local restaurant to share the minute but colorless details of their lives.  It isn’t until one of them loses his job and faces financial ruin that an old memory surfaces that changes everything.

Using the familiar and effective method of story-telling to teach basic Spiritual Truths, author Lauren McLaughlin brings to life The ELF, a personification of The Eternal Life Force – the creator and sustainer of all life.  Throughout the story, the characters “Go to ELF!” persistently with their troubles and woes; wondering why they were born, what they are supposed to be doing, why their lives are unfolding the way they are, and more importantly, why their prayers aren’t being answered.  And with gentle kindness, The ELF teaches them the simple and basic steps they have to take in order to live a more joy-filled and satisfying life.

“Go to ELF” brings forth a message that will resonate with everyone who would like to live smarter not harder, and have a great deal of fun doing it.

Programming Change for Change Thrivers Radio Show on January 3, 2011

Happy New Year!

Life is change and when we are flexible, we can best deal with change. We had to reschedule our announced program for tonight on “How to Release Unfinished Business and Make your New Year Brighter!” for February because my guest Eileen Broer is under the weather. Instead I will be presenting “The Language of Understanding”, an overview of personality types based on Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).

People react to change in different ways depending on many factors including their personality. Understanding the concept of personality differences offers you a window to other ways of thinking and behaving that are different than your own and can increase your appreciation for others.

The topic of Venita’s View by Venita Garvin Valdez is “Self-Acceptance”.

The place to be…Women as Visionaries: Create Your New Year’s Success Story Workshop, January 22, 2011

“Women need more she-roes, or heroines. Venues that introduce local women visionaries to other women can fulfill that need,” says Lore Raymond, world humanitarian, life coach, and creative force and founder behind Women as Visionaries.

Lore’s vision is “opening hearts and inspiring action.” To do that, she sponsors vision mapping events like one set for Saturday, January 22 at The Pier in downtown St. Petersburg, FL; VisionQuest travel opportunities; and speaks to groups and facilitates visioning workshops for some of America’s major companies and non-profits.

“These avenues inspire women to take a next step, to make a declaration that changes their lives in a positive way. These opportunities help women connect to the special, sacred and creative. I don’t ever know what’s going to happen during a Women as Visionaries workshop, event, or VisionQuest, and that’s exciting!”

While there are always several goal-setting workshops offered in the New Year, what makes the January 22nd   workshop unique is the format: eleven Women as Visionaries Honorees co-facilitate the workshop together, as though an choreographed dance, each sharing their own gifts and talents to the ultimate goal  PLUS every attendee walks away with a clearer vision of her goals and directions with specific tools to sustain her. This year that means starting to create a Vision Book which will hold images, words, affirmations, and even stories to reinforce her  “New Year’s Story.”

The visionary women being honored this year and presenting at the workshop are Ingrid Bredenberg; Strategic Coach, Jill Cook-Richards; Spiritual Psychic, Constance d’Angelis; Author of The 7 Laws of Inner Peace, Dr. Carla Goddard; Sacred Soul Shaman, Terez Hartmann; Founder/CEO Rock My Spirit, Afsaneh Noori; Author of Change Thrivers Resource Guide, ALisa Starkweather; Founder of the international grassroots Red Tent Movement,  Anita Stewart; Hillsborough County Soil & Water Conservation Board, Kimberly Finn Weaver; Writer, Altered-Object Artist, Leah Young; Founder & CEO, Women Living on The Verge of Evolution (L.O.V.E.)

The life-changing workshop and luncheon buffet for only 101 women is set for Saturday, January 22, from 8:00 am – 5:00pm at The Pier in downtown St. Petersburg, FL; people from as far away as Nevada, Colorado, and Massachusetts are attending.  The investment is $133 per person with an early bird registration before January 15 of $111.00. Five Steps to Discovering Your Powerstory

By Fran Taylor Powers of Powerstories Theatre www.Powestories.com

Knowing your Powerstory, especially if it is well formed and had an inspirational message can help you claim your power. On the Change thrivers segment of our show on “Telling the Story of SheVolution”, Fran Powers offered these steps to know and share your Powerstory:

  1. Imagine there is a chair on stage with a spotlight on it. There are a 1000 people in the audience waiting for you to tell your story. Now ask yourself, “What one story am I going to tell the audience that would help them grow?” Once you find this story, not only it will inspire others but it will inspire you.
  2. When you are putting the story together, give the story a very meaningful 1 sentence message. Memorize and repeat it often. Listen to it over and over.
  3. Write that message down. Keep it with you and refer to it because those are your words and therefore they are more meaningful to you.
  4. Trust that there is value in that message. You can inspire yourself with your own stories.
  5. Put words around your story and then share it with others. Give your story as a gift and when you do, it will empower you.

If you missed the program, Fran discussed the following questions:

  • What is a Powerstory?
  • Does everyone have a Powerstory?
  • How do you find a Powerstory?
  • What is the power of knowing your Powerstory?
  • What is the power of telling your Powerstory?
  • What is the one secret of a Powerstory?

Fran has offered 5 pairs of tickets to SheVelution at the Unitarian Universalist church of Clearwater on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Visit ChangeThrivers.com, register for the free gifts and your name will automatically be added for the drawing on Wednesday September 22.

Bringing Balance Back into Life After a Change…

August 10th, 2010 | Tags: , ,
Posted in Personal Empowerment and Growth | 1 Comment »

To live a balanced life is a desire for most of us but it does take thought and effort to accomplish. However in the times of change, we often let go of that notion and focus on what we have to do to get through the change. I don’t always live in balance but I do my best to achieve it as much as I can in my life. I lost balance during the launching of the Change Thrivers Radio show which was a very intense experience,  requiring a great deal of my attention at the expense of many other parts of my life. Now that the work is done, I am working on bringing balance back to my life and I want to share my process with you.

My partner Magda and I had expected this period of concentrated activity and had prepared for it as best we could. We knew that in the cycle of change, this phase was about surviving the demands of this project which was going to change the way we lived our lives normally. We agreed that we would do the essential tasks that had to get done in the most efficient way that we could and let other things slip away until after the launch. Magda was prepared to pick up some of my usual house hold tasks to free my time up for work. Other casualties of this time were no exercise for over a month and not enough rest or recreation. Dealing with the sheer amount of details was quite stressful and the hours in front of the computer was hard on my body.

This was also a period of reflection and self awareness as I clarified my message, mission and direction. I managed to keep myself in a good frame of mind. In daily prayers I soaked in the feelings of gratitude and in meditations I asked for guidance and I listened for my inner Knowing. I set my intentions for following my joy and taking inspired actions. I read, listened to or watched inspirational material daily. Before each task I envisioned the results that I wanted. This spiritual practice energized and focused me each day as I watched one thing fall into place after another. This connection to my Truth gave me the focus, stamina and desire to work hard and put all of myself into it.

It was an emotional high as each new door opened just in time for me to walk through. Amazing people, each with just the perfect talent showed up in my life and took pieces of this new creation and added their gifts to it. Before I knew it, I had learned how to navigate in the world of social media, had a theme song, logo and avatar, videos, pictures, blogsite, professional copy writing and radio announcements. I had booked the show into the spring of the next year with high quality guests who can inspire my audience. I had friends who were cheering me on and a partner that was supporting me with joy. I had a network of loved ones that added their energy of love, well wishes and support to mine and gave me an emotional push toward the finish line.

The first show was a triumph. When I listened to it later, I tried to hear it from the listeners’ point of view and I genuinely liked what I heard. I was proud of the result of all the efforts that had gone into it.  I felt as if I had just given birth to a beautiful and healthy new life.

Then, I crashed.  For the first couple of days I slept for long hours, lounged on my recliner with a good thick novel and only left it when I was hungry or nature called. I felt layers of tiredness seeping through the chair as I sipped my tea, read and dosed off. Although my body rested, I was emotionally spent. I came down from the adrenalin high of a very intense period of concentration and production and took a dip into the shadow land. I was emotionally fragile for a few days and felt hurt easily. It didn’t feel good although I knew it was just part of the process.

Now that I am emotionally and physically back to my normal self, I am working on bringing back the  balance into my daily activities. I began taking caring of my body by swimming daily and planning my meals better. I am de-cluttering my office and home so I can work and live in inviting spaces that make me feel good. I am organizing my ”to do” list so I can be more focused when I am working. I am planning play time to catch up with my friends and nurture my connections.

A dear friend, Dara, replied to a post on facebook about balancing our lives.  She said, “Balance is a state of mind!! In life, sometimes things MUST be placed on the back burner so that what is cooking up front can be stirred, seasoned, watched, stirred some more, water added if necessary, until finally it comes to the consistency and taste we desire….at which point, that pot can be moved to the back and what was simmering before can be placed up front again…..LIFE….isn’t it GRAND!! Always Changing and forever evolving!!”
